About us

BDPC was established in 1992 after the devastating flood of 1988 and the cyclone of 1991 with the objective of community empowerment in disaster risk reduction. Since 1992, BDPC has implemented a number of projects directed at community empowerment in disaster risk reduction and emergency response. In various projects, BDPC is engaged in mobilizing vulnerable communities towards DRR, forming village disaster preparedness committees (VDPCs), enhancing the capacity of the communities by organizing different training sessions, conducting community risk assessments (CRA), strengthening disaster early warning at family and community level, enhancing community capacity on emergency response and advocating with different  stake holders at local and national level to mobilize resources to sustain the community based approach. Capacity enhancement has been a common component of all the projects of BDPC, requiring development of numerous training manuals and handbooks.
