Honufa saved her crop through using perching technique

Honufa Begum comes from an insolvent family from Jewdhara Village of Ward 9 in Nishanbaria Union. She does work in agriculture field along with her family members. As they did not follow the proper cultivation process, every year the production of the land were affected by insects. Honufa Begfum participated at livelihood related training arranged by BDPC. There she has learnt about perching method and applied in her field to protect crop from insects. Perching (a pole or rod set in and around cropland, usually horizontal, serving as a roost for birds) is an environmental friendly manner to reduce insects without using pesticides. Local bird’s primary food is invertebrates.

Success Story of Imam Md. A Malek

Kumarkhali Village is located at the edge of Ward-8, Khaulia Union also bordering with adjacent Soronkhola Upazila. Hafez A. Malek is an Imam of a local mosque, and his family lives in Kumarkhali for generations.  Besides his regular work as an Imam, Mr. Malek do chicken farming at his home for additional earning. As a member of WDMC, he has attended at different training, workshop and coordination meetings organized by BDPC, where he learnt about the Right to Information Act 2009.{/hits}

Shah’Alam’s exertion to reduce environmental pollution

Shah Alam, a member of Ward-7, Nishanbaria Sachetan Dal (beneficiary group), lives in close proximity of Sundarban mangrove forest for generations. A poor social worker, Shah Alam has no fixed income source to run his small family. He used to drive wooden cart, catch fishes from nearby canals surrounding by Sundarban and provide labor for living.

Prototype of Living

“I will try not to beg anymore; rather invest my labor to run my small business on my own”- said Taslima, who live in Gulishakhali village of Nishanbaria Union, Morelgoinj. Taslima is a daughter of 70 years old motionless mother, a sister of a 23 years old mentally-handicapped autistic brother and a mother of 5 years old daughter member of ward beneficiaries group.

Establishing the right to information

Without access to services such as health care, social benefits and agricultural subsidies, vulnerable house holds are ill-equipped to withstand frequent disaster. Within BDPC's RRDPRG project, training in social accountability, good governance and the Right to Information Act is helping vulnerable communities fight corruption and ensure their rights to basic services and information.
