Information and Service Fair 2012

In a democratic country “Freedom of information is a fundamental human right.” Inhabitant of a country has the right to have access to information and know everything happening around him. The access to information or freedom of expression is the prerequisite to fulfillment of all other rights. In its very first session 1946, UN enshrined that 'Freedom of information is a fundamental human right.’ The RTI Act was notified in the Bangladesh Gazette on Monday, April 6, 2009. The Act indicates that any citizen can seek or demand information from authority and the authority is bound to provide information based on the demand it receives. The most important part of the efforts is to make the vulnerable section informed of their rights and privileges under this act. Regrettably, the citizens are not aware of this act or any commission formed under this act.

BDPC at the third Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction

In May 2011, BDPC was invited to participate in the third Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. It was an excellent opportunity to share our community based approach with the international disaster management community, learn about recent developments in DRR, be involved in global discussion and advocate for the empowerment of disaster prone communities.

Promoting food security with Save the Children

BDPC recently developed training materials and conducted Training the Trainer sessions in disaster risk reduction reduction and emergency preparedness for Save the Children's Nobo Jibon project. The materials will be used to conduct training sessions in disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness for around 200,000 households in the most vulnerable areas of Barisal.

First edition of Protasha now available

Stories of RODDUR

BDPC is proud to present “Stories of roddur”, a booklet of case studies from our project, Reducing the risk of Disaster through Promotion of Rights and Governance. Roddur is a Bengali word meaning “light from the sun”. RODDUR (Reducing the Risk of Disaster through Dissemination of information and Upholding Rights) is also an alternative title for the project, which is used by staff, volunteers and beneficiaries at the grass roots level. Like the sun lights up the earth, we hope that our project will bring light to the communities where we work, giving people the information they need to recognize and uphold their rights.
