| BDPC Soaring High in GPDRR Flagging the Need for Community Empowerment for Disaster Risk Reduction |
The Second Session of the GPDRR was held from 16 to 19 June 2009 in Geneva, in a backdrop of global concern about climate change and increasing disaster risks. Over 1800 participants from 300 international, regional, and national organisations, including Representatives from 170 countries, attended this gathering of the worldwide Disaster Risk Reduction community. It was a 4 day programme, jam-packed with opening and closing sessions, plenary sessions, five high level plenary sessions, 41 special events, a Market place, and media events, and countless small and one to one but very important parleys at the lobbies, in corridors, and cafeteria (for detail programme schedule, please visit: http://www.unisdr.org).
